BOTOX® and Dysport

BOTOX® and Dysport work by temporarily relaxing facial muscles and easing the muscle tension that causes fine lines and wrinkles. Laugh lines, smile lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet are fine lines or wrinkles caused by repetitive facial muscle movements. Smoking, sun damage, and genetics further contribute to these early signs of aging. Over time, these lines become deep creases, prematurely aging your appearance.

BOTOX® and Dysport are approved for patients who are 18 years and older. Most experts agree that even patients in their mid to late 20s and early 30s are at a good age for preventative BOTOX® treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does BOTOX® do?

BOTOX® and Dysport will soften expression lines. Nuanced treatments can even give a lift to your brows and lids, decrease the downturn of the corners of the mouth, flip the upper lip, and even help with relaxing the muscles that cause us to unconsciously clench and grind our teeth!

What areas can be treated with BOTOX®?

Forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, frown lines, bunny lines on the nose, smokers lines, marionette lines/mouth corners, chin wrinkles, neck bands, jawline and more can be treated with BOTOX® and Dysport.

Which is better for me: BOTOX® or Dysport?

This is a tricky question to answer without seeing you in person, so to really find out, contact us for a consultation. What we can tell you now is that there are slight differences between the two products. For some, Dysport is a better option while BOTOX® is better for others. For instance:

  • Dysport has smaller botulinum particles with fewer protein buffers surrounding them. Translation? Many patients see results more quickly with Dysport. We’re talking about 4 days with Dysport vs. 7-10 days with BOTOX®—not a huge difference, but maybe enough to matter if you need to look great by the weekend.
  • Dysport is injected more deeply and spreads more easily than BOTOX®. As a result, we can sometimes treat a broader area with fewer Dysport injections. This is only an advantage if we want to treat a broader area, so it doesn’t necessarily make Dysport better, just better at certain times.
  • Some patients just like their results better with BOTOX® than Dysport, and vice-versa. Just like some people prefer crunchy peanut butter and others prefer creamy, some people are happier with the results of one product over another.
Is Dysport really cheaper than BOTOX?

At the Aesthetic Center or Richmond Dermatology, BOTOX® costs $13.50/unit and Dysport costs $4.50/unit. Many patients see this per-unit price difference and think, “Wow! Dysport is so much cheaper…it’s a no-brainer which one I want.” Here’s the rub: it takes more Dysport units than BOTOX® units to achieve the same goal. The two products are measured on totally different scales. While Dysport treatments may end up costing a little less for some patients, for others the overall price difference is negligible.

Rather than focusing on price, focus on who is performing your injections. Provider skill and experience are directly related to how safe your treatment is and how natural your results look. Choose a skilled provider with several years of experience performing both Dysport and BOTOX® injections for a variety of male and female patients.

Will Dysport or BOTOX last longer?

Both products are temporary and last 3 to 4 months on average, depending on the patient. Dysport tends to get to work a little more quickly than BOTOX®, with final results in place within about 5 days. BOTOX® results can take up to 2 weeks to finalize.

Are there rewards programs for both BOTOX® and Dysport products?

Yes! You can earn points and discounts for your BOTOX® treatments on the downloadable app “Alle” and for Dysport on “Aspire Galderma Rewards”. We can help you get started at your appointment and also help you with tracking your rewards.

  • Dr. Gross and her nurse Lauren are amazing! I can’t say enough positive things about them and the office. I only wish I had found them sooner!

  • They’re doing an awesome job running this place and I won’t hesitate to go back to them after this time. They’re both super friendly and genuinely changed my mind about Invisible Ink big time.

  • Love Dr. King and her team! (And I’ll be honest, I am not an easy patient because of all my skin issues [acne, moles, runners foot] but despite all of this, she treats me with professionalism and gives me what every patient wants – time.) Highly recommend… My family goes to her too!

  • I had a GREAT experience with Dr. Gross and her staff. I was able to get signed in quickly when I arrived for my appointment and waited a normal amount of time in the waiting room as well as my exam room. Dr. Gross was very personable, took her time with me and was able to answer all of my questions thoroughly.

  • Dr. Terhune is incredibly kind, efficient, and listens to hear what your real concerns are…  I’ve never had to wait more than 15 minutes for my appointment. She works quickly and efficiently but thoroughly. Her nurses are also kind and helpful.

  • Very knowledgeable and friendly staff and physicians.

  • Dr. Peck was great. This was my first visit and she made me feel completely as ease, would definitely recommend this office and doctor to everyone!

  • From my perspective, Dr, Ed is the best there is. I have very sensitive skin and he works with me to see that no farther damage is done. If you want the best in skin treatment, go here.

  • Love love this group! Suzanne is the best and so super sweet!! She saw me through my entire pregnancy working on a lesion and even came to see me and the baby once he was born in the hospital!! Couldn’t ask for a more friendly professional group of dermatologists!!
