How is it performed?

When you arrive for your Fraxel appointment, a topical anesthetic will be applied to the treatment area. Then, it will typically be left on for 60 minutes prior to treatment. For smaller Fraxel treatments, it may be less. Your provider will select treatment parameters for your individual needs. Most patients describe a gradual, increased sensation of heat during the treatment. After the treatment, most patients feel like they have a sunburn, which typically diminishes in 1 to 3 hours. 

Recovery

Common side effects of Fraxel Dual, depending on settings, include darkening and fragmentation of pigmentation, sloughing, redness, and swelling. Most side effects will resolve within 7-14 days. After treatment, you should wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. In addition, you should avoid direct sun exposure and wear a wide-brimmed hat if you are in the sun.
