What is PRF?

Unlike traditional Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), Plasma-Rich Fibrin contains a higher concentration of platelets and autologous growth factors to further increase hair follicle regeneration. PRF is an advanced and refined version of PRP, releasing growth factors over time to steadily and more effectively stimulate hair follicles and new hair growth. 

How is it performed?

During your visit, a small amount of blood is collected. The sample is then placed into a centrifuge. This separates the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and growth factors from other blood components. The PRP is then extracted, and converted to PRF by your provider. Next the PRF is injected into the areas of the scalp where you are experiencing hair loss. 

Recovery

There is minimal to no downtime with PRF hair restoration injections. Patients may experience mild tenderness, swelling, or occasional bruising to the scalp after treatment. The intensity and duration of these symptoms may vary, but typically last 2-4 days after treatment.

Frequency of Treatments

The number of treatments needed depends on each individual patient’s desired outcome. When first beginning your PRF hair restoration, we recommend treatments every 4-8 weeks for the first several months. Your provider will then individualize a consistent course of treatment every 3-6 months depending on your overall hair health and outcomes. To maintain new hair growth, it is important to receive regular maintenance treatments as needed.

Who is a good candidate for PRF hair restoration?

PRF injection therapy is suitable for any individual (both men and women) experiencing various hair loss concerns, such as: 

• Thinning hair
• Receding hairline
• Widening part
• Excessive shedding

Before beginning treatments, we recommend having your Primary Care Provider test for underlying medical conditions (ie. Hypothyroid, Anemia) that could be contributing to hair loss and overall hair health.

When will I see results?

PRF Hair Restoration results will vary from patient to patient. On average, patients will start to see an improvement after 3 months or 3 treatments.

Is PRF hair restoration permanent?

Hair restoration with PRF is not a permanent solution for hair loss. After initial treatments, you can easily maintain your results with follow up treatments every 6-12 months. A schedule will be individualized by your provider to maintain your ideal level of hair restoration.

Do PRF injections hurt?

Both drawing a blood sample and injecting the PRF into the scalp are performed using fine needles. Most patients find both aspects of this procedure very tolerable. We also use several distraction techniques to ensure a comfortable injection experience.
