KYBELLA®

KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment for adults that destroys fat cells. It is used to gradually improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin. Fat below the chin, or submental fat, is also called “double chin”. KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is actually a naturally occurring molecule in the body. It is a molecule that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When KYBELLA® is injected into the fat beneath the chin, it destroys fat cells. As a result, you will see a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these fat cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

How is it performed?: Prior to your KYBELLA® treatment, we will cleanse the area to be treated and apply topical anesthetic cream. The area to be treated will be marked. The KYBELLA® treatment consists of a series of superficial injections. It typically takes less than five minutes. Most patients require 2-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results.
Recovery: Swelling, bruising, and transient numbness are the most common side effects associated with KYBELLA®. These KYBELLA® side effects usually resolve within one week, although some patients experience numbness which can take up to 6 weeks to dissipate.
