Unlike traditional Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), Plasma-Rich Fibrin contains a higher concentration of platelets and autologous growth factors to further increase collagen production and support healthy skin. Since PRF is derived from your own blood, it is a very safe method of regenerative medicine to treat various signs of aging and enhance healing. 

During your visit, a small amount of blood is collected. The sample is then placed into a centrifuge. This separates the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and growth factors from other blood components. The PRP is then extracted, converted to PRF, and prepared for use by your provider. 

The tear troughs are located at the inner corners of the eyes, next to the nose. As we age, people will often encounter problems with this particular facial feature in the form of hollowing, discoloration, or laxity in the skin. Unlike most dermal fillers, PRF works to address the underlying causes of these features by stimulating collagen production to thicken and brighten the appearance of skin under the eye. 

Once prepared, the PRF is placed directly into the tear trough. An average of 2-3 treatments are recommended to see optimal improvement. Thereafter, it is important to receive regular maintenance PRF treatments as needed. Patients may experience mild tenderness, swelling, or occasional bruising after treatments. The intensity and duration of these symptoms may vary, but typically last 3-7 days after treatment. 

Many factors such as skin thickness, skin color, the underlying bone structure, and the existence of surrounding fat pads all play influential roles in determining the proper course of action. Scars can be very impactful, often devastating and distressing. PRF can help stimulate healing and promote tissue regeneration, improving the overall appearance of scars. 

The result of PRF for scar therapy often depends on your scar condition. Most patients will start to see improvements in overall scar appearance after 3-4 injection treatments, but your provider may recommend you come back for follow-up sessions. For enhanced results, we recommend pairing treatments with additional collagen induction therapy procedures. For example, Radiofrequency Microneedling.
