What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a FDA-approved injectable containing Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which works within the deep dermis to revitalize collagen production and restore your skin’s inner structure and volume. Sculptra is injected directly into the area of volume loss to help formulate new collagen. It gradually helps to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds, giving the skin an overall more youthful-looking complexion. Overtime, the PLLA microparticles are gradually and naturally absorbed and excreted by the body. 

Who is a good candidate for Sculptra?

Sculptra is suitable for any patient wanting a natural, youthful-looking appearance. It can be used across a range of patient ages, whether you are looking to prevent collagen depletion or correct notable signs of volume loss.

Frequency of Treatments

The number of vials and treatments needed vary from person to person, depending on how much collagen has been lost. On average, an initial 2-3 treatments is recommended over a period of a few months. To maintain your results, regular maintenance treatments are recommended as needed.

Recovery

There is minimal downtime after Sculptra injections. After treatment, the most common side effects include swelling, tenderness, mild pain, and bruising at the injection sites. These symptoms usually subside within a few days. You’ll be encouraged to use an ice pack to reduce swelling or discomfort, especially during the first 24 hours after your treatment. You will also be instructed to massage the treated areas several times a day for the first week.
